The Lung Association, Alberta & NWT (TLA) raises and allocates funds for critical research, advocates in public policy, provides patient support, and is the primary information source for the lung health of all.
TLA began in 1939 as the Alberta Tuberculosis Association. Our goal was to educate the public about TB, conduct mass chest x-rays and provide a rehabilitation service for TB sanitarium patients.
Over the years, TLA has broadened its scope to encompass all aspects of lung health. Current areas of focus include issues related to asthma and allergies, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and lung cancer, flu and infectious diseases, environmental issues, smoking prevention and cessation, sleep apnea, and continued work in the area of TB.
